Alexandra Tissot, PhD

Aquatic Ecotoxicologist

Hello and welcome! My name is Allie. I'm an ecotoxicologist with a specialty in invertebrate zoology who studies pesticides as multiple stressors in estuarine and marine environments. I'm also a photographer, reader, movie nerd, and avid nature fan.

Research Interests

My PhD work focused on pesticides as multiple stressors, meaning how they interact both with other pesticides as well as other contaminants (i.e., microplastics). As an ecologist, I focus on impacts to the overall system, and as an invertebrate zoologist, I study impacts to invertebrate physiology.

I've had the honor of getting to work with a number of fellow students and scientists in the field, including work on invasive species and stormwater monitoring for microplastic contaminants. While pesticides are my main focus, I'm passionate about environmental contaminants as a whole, and the effects they have on water quality and the communities that are affected by them.

I am very passionate about environmental justice and inclusivity in toxicology. As a disabled person, I advocate heavily for disability accessibility in science. As a toxicologist, I find it impossible to ignore intersectionality in the impacts these chemicals have on marginalized communities, and work hard to include these conversations in my research.
